The Families & Education Levy has historically provided around $17 million per year in City funds to a range of innovative programs that support support early childhood development, school based student and family services, out of school activities and middle school support, and student health services. It’s expiring in 2011, so the revised version that the Levy Oversight Committee has been working on is going to be on the ballot again next November.
Event Briefing
Highlight: The representation from the refugee/immigrant community. Have it at New Holly worked
Most controversial: The feeling of being forced to choose between helping 0-5 year olds and 15-17 year olds.
Most suprising thing: It was on the same night as the SPS Reporting meeting
New learning: That the Seattle Youth and Families Initiative was being used to help develop priorities for the Youth and Families Levy. I did not connect the two until this event notice.
Possibilities: Syncing this effort more intentionally with Seattle Public Schools recently received school reports. We need resources to make up the gap from state funding, the Youth and Families Levy can fill some of the gap.
