From Coach Vic

For this year’s Earth Day (4/22), Rainier Beach Action Coalition( RBAC) partnered with the Northwest Kidney Center to beautify a green space at 44th and Renton. The team of 18 volunteers gathered together to make a difference in this lovely space so that it can be enjoyed by neighbors and the community. This will mark the eighth Earth Day where RBAC and Northwest Kidney Center have partnered to beautify the neighborhood.

The project was led by Issac Robersone and Coach Vic of RBAC. Over a two hour period the group was busy and engaged in removing a few lingering blackberry vines on the site, as well as removing invasives such as Holly and English Ivy.  With so many bodies moving throughout the site, they quickly made quick work to trim and shape  dozens of hedges on the site and thin out the prickly branches on the Rugosa Roses that were planted on the site. After all of this the team layed down a thick blanket of bark mulch by shoveling and moving bark in buckets.

It was pure joy to see the “many hands” making light work and watching the professional care that was taken by the volunteers.  Please walk or drive by the little green space and see for yourself how RBAC and our partners make a difference in our neighborhood. Much thanks to the Seattle Department of Transportation for the mulch and Seattle Public Utilities for their support.

Best,

Coach Vic
