A hundred neighborhood resident leaders and stakeholders attend 2014 Rainier Beach Town Hall to take steps to add to the neighborhood’s capacity to uplift its priorities, projects and passions.

Held on April 24th in the rotunda at the fabulous South Shore Pk-8 school, the atmosphere was vibrant, energetic, confident and spearheading! These are words that came from attendees of the first Rainier Beach Town Hall meeting since 2011. The Rainier Beach neighborhood has historically set aside time in their community calendar to celebrate, discuss and brainstorm on how to trumpet their best, this effort is picking up that tradition.

Hosted by Rainier Beach Moving Forward and the Rainier Beach Community Empowerment Coalition the stage has been set for making the Rainier Beach Town Hall an institution for years to come. Rainier Beach is a neighborhood with a rich record of people seeking to maximize their strengths and efforts and to see the passions and concerns of its people met! An example was their awarding the RB Unsung Hero Awards to the Rainier Beach High School Boys Basketball Team and the original Rainier Beach 2014 Neighborhood Plan organizing group.

According to Patrice Thomas, Rainier Beach Neighborhood Coordinator “We are looking forward to building on our working and personal relationships that contribute to the positive fabric of this neighborhood by leaning towards a culturally competent and sustainable network here in Rainier Beach!”

The hosts were excited by the attendance of community organizations, schools, residents, city departments, faith leaders, funders and youth. They anticipate this effort adding to their capacity as a neighborhood intermediary in uplifting the priorities, projects, voices and passions of it residents. Action planning meetings called ATM (Action Team Meetings) are scheduled for the fourth Thursday of each month, 6:30 p.m. at the Rainier Beach Medical Dental Clinic operated by NeighborCare
