Background for SKCDC: King County Best Starts for Kids (BSK) is an initiative to “improve the health and well-being of King County by investing in prevention and early intervention for children, youth, families, and communities.” One of the investment ($) areas is trauma-informed schools and restorative justice practices. Due in part to King County’s participation in the South King County Discipline Coalition’s Grassroots & Funder Convening in January, during which we discussed equitable funding processes and community of color led education-related services and programming, King County is taking intentional steps to engage with the community and incorporate parent input in the development of this investment strategy. To this end, King County is holding this first parent focus group on March 28, 2017 with the support from the South King County Discipline Coalition.
