If you are concerned about the impact of closing the Rainier Beach Community Center, please review this invitation from Guiding Academics and Mentoring with Excellence and help get the word out about this important meeting:

Closing the Rainier Beach Community Center for more than two years has the potential to negatively effect the community in a profound way.

Guiding Academics and Mentoring with Excellence (GAME) and the Rainier Beach Community would like to invite you to participate in addressing a critical need of our youth as the result of this closing. There will be a community meeting at:

  • Location: Rainier Beach Public Library (9125 Rainier Ave South, Seattle, WA 98118)
  • Date: February 3, 2011
  • Time: 6:00pm to 7:45pm.

We will be developing solutions and alternatives for our youth and families affected by the closure.

While the need for a renovated Rainier Beach Community Center is great, the closure of the center for the next two years has the potential to negatively impact the community especially the population that was served there. This community center has provided a variety of services for the most culturally diverse zip code in the country. These service include: Family support, arts, dance, music, life skills, sports, tutoring and mentoring were just a few of the programs provided there. The Rainier and Henderson neighborhood has a high concentration of high risk youth, due in part to the number of schools located in close proximity. On any given evening you can drive though this community and can see many youth hanging out and not actively engaged in productive activities. A number of community residences feel that their voice has not been heard.

This is an opportunity to let your voice be heard. Come and give us your ideas and plans on how we can better the Rainer Beach community by providing alternatives to the closed facility.

Refreshments and child care will be offered. Please let us know if you will need child care by calling Joy Wallace at 206-414-9050 to reserve care as spots as are limited.
