Have you ever walked down the street and seen litter on the ground? How about walking and some overgrown bushes are blocking your path, forcing you to walk in the street? The Clean Crew, which is a part of Rainier Beach Action Coalition (RBAC) and the CPTED activity of Rainier Beach: A Beautiful Safe Place for Youth walks around Rainier Beach beautifying the neighborhood. Historically, Rainier Beach: A Beautiful Safe Place for Youth, Rainier Beach Community Club, and RBAC have hosted a Community Clean Up, which has been a day full of the community coming together to beautify different parts of Rainier Beach. This year, in light of COVID 19, we adapted quickly and had a virtual edition, The 2020 Rainier Beach Community Clean-Up Challenge! Shout out to the seventeen teams who participated. We appreciate your contribution to making Rainier Beach a beautiful, safe place! We would also like to congratulate our top three winners in the 2020 Rainier Beach Community Clean-Up Challenge:

1st place – Tyrone and Yvette Kenney and Larry Wilmore

2nd place – Ron Angeles

3rd place  Dave Merrill

The participants of this challenge have taken the opportunity to serve our neighborhood despite uncertain times. While in the midst of a global pandemic, they continue to participate in their community and advocate for justice. Even though there is a complete shift from how things used to be, they continue to prioritize our community.

During this time it can be difficult to find ways to stay connected, be safe, and join together in sustaining the beauty and safety of Rainier Beach. Even picking up one piece of trash can make a difference. One smile goes a long way too. How can you make a difference in the beauty and safety of Rainier Beach? If you’re interested in connecting with the Clean-Up Challenge team please contact tyra@rbactioncoalition.org.

Congratulations again to the winners!
